Rope Care

Wash natural rope in cold water by hand or on the gentle cycle in a pillow case or lingerie bag with Liquid Laundry Soap, unscented or allergen free detergent recommended.

We recommend cold water because it's gentler, doesn't shrink natural fibers and the rope will retain it's integrity longer.

If you hand wash a salad spinner or bathing suit spinner is helpful to remove excess water to help the rope dry quicker.

Drip dry under tension to remove kinks and stretchiness.

When should you clean your rope? When it's dirty.

Can I use hot water? Yes especially if it is soiled with body fluids. Safety is more important than the longevity of your rope. People can't be replaced but your rope can and should be replaced when too worn or frayed to be safe.

What Equipment /Supplies are recommended for Rope Bondage?

There are many options to choose from. The diameter is important, most people choose something that is 1/4" or 6mm which about the diameter of a No. 2 pencil.

If it's smaller than 1/4" or 6mm diameter it often cuts into the skin too much and the knots cinch down too tight making it hard to untie.

What safety equipment is recommended for rope bondage? EMT/Safety/Medical Shears or Scissors in an easy to see color so you can locate it quickly in an emergency. Accidents happen sometimes, in Rope Bondage if the rope tightens in a way that causes harm creating a blood flow restriction it may be necessary to cut the rope to save limb or life. Use caution!

What type of rope is best?

What people choose to tie with is based on many personal preferences like softness or fiber and what type of rope is safest for the tie being executed.

If you're doing regular rope bondage with no weight bearing components as long as it's around that 1/4" diameter and it's a solid braid or twist you should be fine.

When you start doing rope bondage that is weight bearing involving partial and full suspension the choice of rope is much more critical. You want something with with a good tooth that doesn't stretch. Most people use a quality Jute or Hemp made for rope bondage. However many western rope bondage enthusiasts like MFP rope which is synthetic and a bit slippery. The slickness of this type of rope requires some special additional knots and lock downs to stop the rope from slipping loose.

Carabineers and Suspension Rings

Carabineers and Suspension Rings are tools that are often used for Rope Bondage Suspensions. There are many resources out there, however it's important to obtain quality equipment from a reputable vendor. Locking Carabineers that are rated for rock climbing are recommended. Suspension rings should be steel with a solid weld and smooth finish.

What do you talk about before tying?

Experience, Limits, Safe Words, Aftercare...

Health Issues, Expectations and CONSENT!

So you're kinky, curious about BDSM. What's next?

Education, events and classes about BDSM skills or fetishes to learn how and how to do it safely.

Meeting other kinky people

You have some options. Kinky or Fetish websites, podcasts or groups. virtual and in person classes or meetings, in person munches, events, parties and classes.

Before playing do an "Intake" and talk about:

Who's the Dominant/Top and who is the submissive/bottom?

What are your levels of real time experience?

What's a limit and who has one?

Establish a safe word, discuss it's use.

Does anyone have physical/mental issues we need to be aware of for the scene?

What do we want to do in our scene? Flogging, spanking, rope?

What intensity of impact? A soft spank, firm medium or leave a hand print hard?

After playing what kind of care is needed for everyone? Water, food, a blanket, chocolate, a nap, cuddles.

CLEAR CONSENT!!!

The most important thing to discuss before playing is CLEAR CONSENT for all scene activity before you play! This includes all sex, use of BDSM and sex toys, orifice insertions, anything requiring a discussion even off limit words and parts of the body! Clear consent is respect!

Where should we play?

Not everyone or everyplace is kinky friendly so use your common sense and secure your scene space. If you're at an event or class check the venue rules. If you decide to play at home or other special location be safe and think about who can see you. It might be advised to close curtains or blinds to keep yourself and play partner safe.

What are some of the Anatomy concerns for Rope Bondage?

Anatomy Do's and Don'ts for Rope Bondage

  • Keep the blood flowing - no tourniquets!
  • Can you breathe?
  • Oh oh that tingles...

The Body has limits and every human is unique. It is important to work within the limitations of your partner!

#1 before you play talk about your bodies.  Does anyone have any physical limitations or health issues to be aware of?

Discuss scene limits, if any to stay safe.

Understand what direction joints can bend, don't push beyond someone's natural flexibility. Don't tie on joints.

Avoid tying too tight. Do leave enough space between body and rope for blood flow.

Don't compress nerves! If your human complains about unusual tingling, move or untie the rope to relieve the compression!

Breathing is super important, avoid wearing corsets or tight clothing that impedes breathing. The rib cage needs to move enough to breathe properly.

Don't tie around the neck!

What is a Rope Bondage Circulatory Issue?

Circulatory Issues - When is the Rope Too Tight?

1. How tight is too tight?

When blood flow is restricted!

2. What are some of the symptoms that the blood flow may be restricted?

  • The limb is cold
  • The limb is turning color
  • The limb swells becoming puffy
  • Feels like the limb is falling asleep
  • There is tingling or numbness in limb

3. What should you do?

Loosen or untie rope.

Massage affected area gently to restore circulation.

4. How do you avoid tying too tightly?

When you are tying rope around a single limb [i.e. an arm or leg] don't make a tourniquet or cinch all the rope tightly around the limb pressing the rope into the skin. As a general rule of thumb you should be able to run a couple of fingers or your thumb underneath the rope of the single column cuff around the limb.

5. What happens when the rope is too loose?

Most likely your rope bottom will get out of the ropes, which can be quite annoying. Sometimes a rope will drop for various reasons. Retie the section if possible or secure the loose rope so it is not a tripping hazard.
